There is an excellent little feature in Flash ActionScript that can help debug where things might be going wrong even though the syntax used is correct. This is the trace(); command.

Well, if you have ever tried to use it and found that it doesn’t show up, the following might just be your answer.

In the menu “File”, select “Publish Settings”. Take a look at the image below. See the red circled item? “Omit trace statements” – if that is ticked, you won’t see any Trace statements at all. Un-tick it and voila, all your trace statements will return.
