Wow, how time flies. Here it is January 2016 already and over a year since my last blog post (sorry about that). Hope everyone had a happy 2015 and made progress in your own research and studies. Best of luck for 2016.

So, what was I doing in 2015?

Bought myself a Fitbit and started to actively exercise
Continued making decent progress with finding and confirming DNA matches, or at least determining which family branches they connected on, thanks to a nifty program called Genome Mate, also started alpha testing it’s replacement

Took custody of a large number of family memorabilia and started the process of indexing and digitising it all
Connected with another DNA cousin
Received the Divorce file associated with an ancestor who was listed as the co-respondent, interesting reading and intriguing new details

Received replica medals of all four direct line ancestors who served in WW1 and WW2
Attended archivists workshop to learn more about archival techniques and methods
Helped move my grandmother’s possessions from her independent home to a high care nursing facility

Grieved the death of my then oldest living ancestor and my 2nd biggest supporter of my family history researchings, my much loved grandmother.

Researched convict ancestor further – still no progress on a confirmed birth or death for him though

Ancestry DNA results back – already two matches through my convict ancestor

Started using Genome Mate Pro full time – the new platform and improved tech version of Genome Mate
Walked around Uluru, visited KataTjuta, climbed and walked the Rim Walk of Watarrka (Kings Canyon), and visited Standley Chasm
Had tendon repair surgery (scheduled, not a result of an accident)

Got really bored during surgery recovery
Re-started colouring that had been near abandoned for almost 10 years due to tendon issues

Debunked a family story thanks to DNA
Started an online course to learn to use my Polychromos pencils more effectively

Started attending drawing classes locally – first subject “Stuart’s Desert Pea”
Another DNA comparison site, DNALand, launched – looks promising

Another 2 confirmed DNA connections made
Started the “busy season” at work

Another confirmed DNA connection – up to 12 now!
23&Me DNA results returned

Highs and lows of all kinds, but overall a safe, happy and productive year.

I’ll be back posting a few of my colouring efforts in the coming days, so keep a watch – backwards – as well as into the future.
